Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

We rarely solve problems by focusing on what is wrong with us. Instead, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps you concentrate on what is working — and on what is possible — in the here and now.

When anxiety or stress takes over, we tend to operate from the more primitive part of the brain — the part responsible for fear, emotional overwhelm and survival responses. While this system is essential for protecting us, it is not always helpful in everyday life.

Our thinking, intellectual brain is different. This is the part responsible for perspective, problem-solving, creativity and confidence. It is where we feel calm, capable and in control. When we strengthen this part of the brain, we cope better, think more clearly and make decisions that feel balanced and constructive.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines elements of cognitive behavioural therapy with guided hypnosis to help you access this calmer state. Hypnosis is not mysterious or unusual. In fact, it is a very natural mental state — similar to becoming absorbed in a book, a film or even a familiar car journey where you momentarily “zone out.” We enter light trance states many times each day without realising it.

In therapy, we use that natural ability intentionally. In a relaxed and focused state, your mind becomes more open to new perspectives and healthier patterns of thinking.

We live in a world that constantly demands more from us. We strive to succeed, to fit in, to achieve, to please others. Over time, this pressure can build. Long-term stress, caring responsibilities, relationship changes or career shifts can quietly erode confidence and create habits that no longer serve us. Sometimes people describe feeling as though they have lost themselves — overwhelmed by expectations and emotion.

Your subconscious mind prefers familiarity and routine, even when those routines are unhelpful. Change can feel uncomfortable. But it is entirely possible.

Hypnotherapy helps you reconnect with the person you want to be — even if you’re not entirely sure who that is yet. It supports you in letting go of outdated patterns and creating new behaviours that feel natural, steady and authentic.

Whoever you are, you matter.

In a safe and supportive environment — whether at my clinic in Lanlivery (between Lostwithiel and Bodmin) or through secure online Zoom sessions — we work together to unlock habitual patterns and restore confidence. The aim is not to change who you are, but to help you feel stronger, clearer and able to move forward as your best self.
